HAART KENYA SEWING TOGETHER

Updated: Jun 5, 2023

It’s incredible to know , that there is more people out there ready to give up their own comfort for another human being. For a while I was searching for a partner to make Sewing Together real ! I worked with NGO’s , Brands – but it just didn’t feel right to push it to the next level. Time was passing, but here we are .

I got introduced to Radek Malinowski already three years ago and I was amazed with the work he does. Obviously my knowledge back then was nothing to what I know now. So here we go. Radek is the founder of NGO Haart Kenya and Haart Poland created to fight human trafficking known as modern slavery .

What is human trafficking :

Human trafficking, otherwise known as modern slavery, involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion to obtain some type of labour or commercial sex act against the will of the person trafficked. Traffickers may use violence, manipulation, or false promises of well-paying jobs or romantic relationships to lure victims into being trafficked. Trafficking victims include men, women, and children of all ages, races, and nationalities

The purpose of sex and human trafficking is to generate profit for the trafficker. Whether the victim is producing income for the trafficker, who sells their services, or the victim is saving money for the trafficker, who pays nothing or very little for the victim's labour—it all adds up to profit.

Some of the most commonly reported forms of human trafficking and modern slavery.

· Sexual exploitation. This is when someone is deceived, coerced or forced to take part in sexual activity.

· Labour exploitation.

· Domestic servitude.

· Forced marriage.

· Forced criminality.

· Child soldiers.

· Organ harvesting.

HAART was founded in 2010 as an organization dedicated to fighting human

trafficking in Kenya and Eastern Africa. HAART works through a multi-disciplinary

approach applying the UN Four P’s Strategy to combat trafficking in persons:

Prevention, Protection, Prosecution, and Partnerships

Unfortunately, most of the victims of human trafficking are women and here is where our visions joined with a common goal to economically empower those women and more.

After a few meetings we have decided that Sewing Together will merge with Haart Kenya for a mutual benefit to be able to create even bigger impact. I was privilege to see their shelters and meet incredible team of young individuals who are fighting for the better future of so many women and children.

I admit, I still have a lot to learn and let it be just an introduction to many more posts related to the subject. Regardless it feels like a big step and I feel honored to be part of Haart Kenya and work under their wings.
