MAJA KOTALA

Maja Kotala is a fashion designer, educator and founder working between creativity, culture and community in Africa.

Originally from Poland, Maja studied fashion in Sydney and gained experience in Paris before moving to Kenya, where she found a place that would become both her home and a major source of inspiration.

Her work brings together fashion, sewing, education, sustainability and storytelling. Through Sewing Together, she creates opportunities for women to develop practical skills and build independent livelihoods. Through the Victoria Rally, she travels across Africa to combine adventure with hands-on workshops and menstrual health education.

But her work goes beyond projects.

Maja is fascinated by Africa — its people, creativity, cultures, colours, contradictions and everyday stories. Through her work, she wants to share a more nuanced picture of the continent: one that goes beyond stereotypes, charity narratives and the image of Africa as a place that simply needs saving.

Today, Maja works from Mombasa, Kenya, creating projects that connect fashion, people, culture and impact — while continuing to learn, explore and build meaningful collaborations along the way.
